Filming Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
Usually, I'll start the blog off by saying what day I begun to film on. This time, obviously, I won't be doing that. My partner and I originally had planned to blog during November 22-24 which was in the middle of Thanksgiving break. I hope its safe to say that neither of us even touched our computer over the break. Due to us not filming when we originally planned to, we had to make some adjustments. We will now film our music video on December 2nd. Since we wont be able to see each other on that actual day, we will have to resort back to our backup plan. Our backup plan consists of us Filming ourselves separately, then editing them together. Due to December 2nd being a school day, we will most likely film later on in the day. For sure, we will both be filming on our phones, which are both iPhones. My partner and I expect things to run quite smoothly being that we both are familiar with filming. We are also both familiar with the actual song that we will be doing. This means ...

Scene 1: In the first scene, this will be the introduction of the music video. In the intro, we will be introducing ourselves as R Kelly and Usher instead of or actual names. In this scene, R Kelly walks in and proceeds to walk towards his living room couch ready to talk to his friend Usher. Scene 2: Scene two will consist of R Kelly sitting and getting comfortable on his couch and gets comfortable. He starts to think about how he is going to tell his friend the great news about his love life. Scene 3: This scene is where R Kelly starts to take out his phone to call his friend. Excitedly, he dials Ushers phone number and waits for the phone to ring.   Scene 4: In this scene, we now move to Usher. This is when Usher now shows up on the screen and he is sitting down on his couch as he receives an incoming call from R Kelly. As he proceeds to answer the call, he pauses his television show.    Scene 5:  Usher then answers the call excited to hear from his friend. ...

Props Since we decided to do a duet as our music video, we will need more props then usual. Our main prop will be a telephone. Other props that we will use are a chair, a bed, and a table. We also may use another person. Costumes In our music, there would be 2 or 3 on camera. The person playing R Kelly will wear a plaid shirt, a hat, and some baggy jeans. The person playing Usher will be wearing a white/black tee with some jeans or joggers. It may be a matching set. If we decide to add a third person they can wear whatever they please, mostly likely two pieces of casual clothing. Schedule On 11/13/20, We decided to work together and picked out the music video we wanted to do.                  On 11/16/20, We begun to research the codes and conventions of a music video.                                      On 11/17/20, We started to planning ...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

For this music video project, I will be working with my partner Maiyah Dukes. We will be doing the song Same Girl by R Kelly and Usher which is a duet.In the video, I will play as R Kelly which is the opening, and Maiyah will pay as Usher as he is listening on the other line. In the original music video for the song, the two men are sitting in their own homes as one of the men (R Kelly) tells Usher about his new girlfriend. As he is giving characteristics to his friend, Usher then realizes that a woman that he is talking to sounds similar. As Usher gives out more characteristics and then two men are comparing, the figure out that they are seeing the same woman. Because of the fact that the music video is only one minute long and we are starting from the beginning, our music video will only preview the phone conversation that the two men are having.  The two characters are two male friends.  The setting is at their homes. Our version of the music video will be the same, we will...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
This project is a new project and one of the biggest ones yet, a music video. For this project, I am working with my friend from a different class period Maiyah Dukes. This has been my friend for a while and since we have the same class this year, we thought that it would be a great idea to work with each other. It is a two person song that we both knew so we thought it was a great idea to work together. We have never worked on a project together before but we are really close and thought this project would be a fun opportunity for us to work together. We also think much alike. It wasn't hard to pick the song that we chose and we already made up dates of what we are going to do that concerns the project. Many other classmates and friends have asked me to be their partner but Maiyah also did ask me first. And even if she didn't, I probably still would have chose her because I think that we would be a great team besides me and anyone else. The song that we chose for this projec...

Creative Critical Reflection - The Powerade Commercial

This commercial project was a great experience for me. It helped a lot with me improving my media skills which includes editing, and creating scenes. I have also learned a lot from doing this project and it was also very fun. Even though there were minor complications throughout the project, I still managed to do good and have fun doing it. My product, or commercial challenged conventions was challenged very well in my opinion. Though this was one of my first real official projects that I have did actual filming on, I think I gave what the audience would be looking for in a commercial even as a beginner. I gave them the thrill, the excitement, and i'm sure the audience that did watch it, attention was caught. In the beginning of my film, it started off as fast lights and thrilling music. Then it went into the information about my product that was in the commercial. The way that my commercial could have possibly represent social groups or issues was by promoting the Powerade product...

The Powerade Commercial Itself.

This is the final part of the commercial. My commercial was based on Powerade. At first I was going to do Gatorade but then I found out that, that was one of the examples shown. Though I didn't get to do what was originally my plan, I ended up improvising and making it into a commercial in the setting of my house. I was disappointed at the fact that everything did not go the way I wanted to, but I think that my commercial still is very good overall. Throughout this whole project, I have learned a lot about Media. The recording process was very easy. Basically, all I did was do different recordings of my actors and picked out the best ones out of all of them. For the presentation of the drinks, I took simple pictures of them and added them to my iMovie so I could continue to add clips and edit when i'm done. I have learned different ways to apply music, text, animations, and words. Some of it was a struggle but most of it was pretty smooth. Since this is one of...

Editing Blog: Powerade Comercial

Image
The editing process of my commercial was easy but hard. Though it was a 30 second commercial, it wasn't too hard and there wasn't many transitions and editing to do because it wasn't a long video. Usually for me, editing takes a long time, but this time it was very simple and easy to do. In my edits, I used different transitions and animations to my movie. I used the iMovie app in my phone because that is the easiest app that I use that is able to edit my clips. On the iMovie app, it comes with its own transitions so I would only have to put my clips in and then use what is provided for me to transition into each scene. But for the other editing structures used for my video, I basically did it myself. I added words, music, animations, and I was the one who recorded and directed the while thing. The adding the animations had to be the hardest part of the project, it was very time consuming and it consisted of me having to search up Youtube videos, pictures, and examples for...
