Research Blog: Commercial Conventions

For my commercial project, I will be doing a commercial for Powerade. In this commercial, I will display multiple people doing different activities such as running and exercising. There will be visuals of the people being tired, sweaty, and needing something cool and refreshing for their dress code, they will be dressed in different types of sports wear such as tennis shoes, hats, sports tops and shorts. The setting for this commercial will most likely be on a football field, basketball court, or track for runners. These structures will give off a sports theme because of course, Powerade is a sports drink.

The description of the commercial is very simple. In the film you will encounter people about three people working out outside or practicing inside. Yow will notice how these people are tired as they run out of breath, heavily breathing and sweating looking like they need something to drink. After that, we will present our product using three or four different type of Powerade flavors including the zero calorie kind. As I present the beverages, we I will present visuals of the participants in the commercial drinking the Powerade's finally feeling refreshed. Then they will continue doing their regular workout and practice routines.

In the commercial, there will be fast transitions from each clip to the next and transition sounds such as the sound of speed, fast light, and other fast motioned animation, transitions and sounds. The sounds and transitions are made to make the commercial maintain its purpose. Different camera angles will be used throughout the commercial. Such as high and low camera angles, up close and side angles. This also goes for the camera shots like head shots etc.. The angles will show full coverage of the participants and the beverages. But for the audience, these structures of the film is aiming to make the audience want to buy Powerade. For example, I will have to add visuals of reasons why they should want to buy the product such as it being refreshing, could be an alternate for an energy drink, and most of all, its not water! Though water is one of the main product that most athletes and people that work out use, Powerade is refreshing, and energizes the same way water does, the difference between the two products though is that Powerade has flavor.
