Editing Blog: Music Video Conventions
During this project, the editing portion was fairly easy. The amount of practice that my partner and I have been doing from other projects has definitely paid off for this major project. The way my partner and I did this music video was at our houses because of safety reasons. We both did our parts at home because in the video, that is how it is shown so it was very easy for us to get our parts in and send it over to each other. My partner, Maiyah Dukes, played R Kelly and her part of the music video was first, so she was introduced first then I was next. She started lip-syncing her part then on the next clip I did the same. For her part, she had a major clip which consisted of 25 seconds. Then when it was my turn, because I played Usher, I also had a major part of speaking. Most of our short clips contained the both of us being introduced or saying something at the same time which was a the beginning and end of the video. The editing process for this was easy, all I had to do was transfer the clips of the person lip-syncing to the person who was actually speaking.
The transitions of the video was easy also, we didn't use any major transitions in the video but we did add a little extra in the beginning of the music video. We did that so that the music video doesn't look too plain and viewers would want to watch. The camera angles of this music video were the basic camera angles that we would use for any other video such as head shots, close ups, and upper angles. Both of our settings were different, she had a setting in her living room while mine was in my room in my home. The settings in the video were raw and unedited because they are safe places in our
homes where privacy was restricted and it also was a good recording place as it was spacious and quiet so that we could work better. On my partners behalf, she did also believe that the editing process of the music video was also easy. She recorded her clips and edited what needed to be edited on the separate clips then sent them over as I did the rest. Overall, editing was a very easy process. I personally think that it would have been harder if we did it any other way or if we did a different song. The thought process of the video and how we completed it in the end was very worth it.
